General Information
Membership
Smithfield Recreation Association is affiliated with Pony
Baseball. Our organization is run by member volunteers. We have
a membership of approximately 300 families. We are currently
serving approximately 400 baseball and softball players in the
Smithfield area.
The
membership fee is $80 per family. The sports fee for each player
is $40. In addition, players (up to 2 per family) must
participate in the SRA fundraiser, which is currently a Raffle.
The Raffle sells chances to win gift cards worth $500., $250
(2), $100. (10), which are drawn on Opening Day. SRA
receives no County or Town funding. The fees and raffle
money is used to maintain the facility, provide uniforms, and
allows the Association to provide each player with a replica hat
and a pair of socks, which they keep. A team drink is also
provided at the end of each game played.
Games for the Spring Season begin in March of every year. Each team plays
at least 12 games during the season. A double elimination
tournament follows the regular season for the Pinto, Mustang,
Bronco, and Pony divisions.
Anyone interested in obtaining more information about Smithfield
Recreation may contact SRA President or the Softball Commissioner.(back to top) |

Work Days
Several times during each year,
Smithfield
Recreation Association holds work days at Beale Park. The purpose
of these work days is to spruce up or maintain our complex for the
season. Since Smithfield Recreation is an volunteer organization,
it is necessary for members to volunteer their time and efforts to make
work days successful.
Tasks covered on work days include such
things
as grooming the fields, picking up trash, painting bleachers, and
spreading mulch around the playground. There are a lot of jobs to
do and work days provide a great opportunity for families to help the
association, meet new people, and get some fresh air - all at the same
time.
Work days begin at 8 am.
Check the calendar
for scheduled work days. Remember, there is always
something that needs to be done at the park. All volunteers are
welcome.

Lost Found
A Lost & Found Box exists in the "Coaches room". Please
place found items in the box. Members should check the box
several times, when something has been lost. It sometimes
takes a couple of days for the items to turn up in the box.
Send email to any SRA Board member (under the "Contacts" tab),
if further assistance is needed.

Concession Stand
During the
season, volunteers run our
concession stand. Some of our volunteers make bi-weekly
trips to purchase stock. Others take time out of their daily
schedules to take inventory and order drinks and bread. It is
also necessary to make arrangements to meet delivery people at the
park. Still others are responsible for ensuring adequate change
is available. Each family is expected to participate in
concession stand duty. This year home teams will be responsible for
providing concession volunteers. If you have
any questions about the duties, would like to volunteer your
services,
or for more information, please contact Chris Kennedy
ckennedy@richmondcold.com.
Along with popcorn, candy, soft drinks, hot dogs
and barbecue the concession stand offers
a variety of healthy snacks (fruit snacks, peanuts, etc.) for
our
younger players. It is hoped that parents who wish to provide
snacks
for their players will continue to support our concession stand by
purchasing
team snacks from concessions and handing them out after the
game.
Remember, in an effort to encourage support for our concession stand,
we
cannot allow people to bring food, snacks or drinks onto park grounds
when
our concession stand is operating.
