Code of Conduct

Smithfield Recreation Association (SRA) Code of Conduct

The following rules and guidelines have been set to  ensure the success of our league, and adherence to these is mandatory  for participation in all SRA functions, including but not limited to  practices, games, and tournaments. I understand that by signing this  document I agree to support and promote this Code of Conduct and Mission  Statement. Furthermore, I understand that my failure to comply with  this agreement will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and  including expulsion from SRA.

1. I will  keep the proper perspective and remember that my child plays  baseball/softball for his/her enjoyment, not mine, and that the overall  objective is to provide a fun, sports oriented, learning experience for  my child.

2. I will encourage my child to play by the rules.

3. I will emphasize skill development and practices and how they benefit my child.

4.  I will always encourage good sportsmanship by setting a positive  example for any child participating in any activity associated with the  league.

5. Only uniformed players, managers, coaches, and  scorekeepers are allowed in the dugout. Unauthorized persons in the  dugout will be asked to leave. After one warning the umpire may declare  the game a forfeit if an unauthorized party refuses to leave.

6.  No player, manager, coach, scorekeeper, or spectator is permitted to  call an opposing player by name, number or defensive position while  player is batting, running, fielding, or pitching. After one warning the  umpire may eject the offending party from the game.

7. I will  remember that everyone associated with the league is a volunteer, and  that they are donating their time and energies to provide a sporting  opportunity for my child.

8. I will leave the coaching to the  coaching staff, and I will encourage my child to play in a manner that  is consistent with the team’s strategy or plans.

9. I will respect and support the umpires and league officials and their authority during games.

10.  I will never question, discuss, or confront coaches at the game field,  and will take time to speak with coaches at an agreed upon time and  place. I understand that if something does occur with which I disagree, I  will calmly seek an appropriate solution, at the appropriate time.

11.  I will demand that my child treat all players, coaches, officials,  parents, and spectators with respect regardless of race, creed, color,  sex, or ability.

12. I will never ridicule or yell at my child or other participant for making a mistake or losing a game.

13.  I, and any invited guests, will not engage in unsportsmanlike conduct  with any official, coach, player, or parent such as booing, taunting,  refusing to shake hands, using profane language or gestures.

14.  I will make every effort to ensure that my child will be on time to  attend all practices and games. If this is not possible, I will provide  adequate notification to the coach.

15. I will pick up my child from practices and games in a timely manner.

16.  I will demand a sports environment for my child that is free from drugs  and alcohol and will refrain from their use at all sports events; I  will not attend any SRA function while being under the influence of any  drugs or alcohol.

17. I will refrain from tobacco use at all  fields. Out of consideration for others, any tobacco use is to be at a  considerable distance from the children and playing fields, and only in  designated and posted areas.

18. I will respect the property and equipment used at any sports facility, both at home and away.

19.  In realizing that SRA is a strictly volunteer organization, I  understand that there are mandatory duties that will require my  participation. Examples of this will be, but not limited to concession  stand duty and fundraising. My participation in these duties will be  coordinated with the team coach/and or team mom and the appropriate SRA  board member.
